Hi and welcome to our latest Open House. As the only provider of custodial deposit protection since the scheme started in 2007, our experience is what makes us the service you can trust.

Our first dispute resolution workshops of the year start in April, and in this issue, we’ll also be sharing our dispute resolution expertise with you to help you be better prepared at the end of your tenancies. We also tell you about some of the industry events where you can come and meet us, and about our next temperature check survey. We hope you enjoy the read.

Failed to prepare? Prepare to fail

Unfortunately, in around 2% of tenancies, landlords and tenants can’t agree on how the deposit should be repaid. In these cases, they look to our Dispute Resolution process to reach a decision.

Many claims fail due to poor preparation, so our expert adjudicators have compiled their top tips for giving your claim the best chance of success.

Furnished with the facts?

In this month’s ‘Be the adjudicator’, we look at a case where a claim for the cost of removal of furniture items left in the property rests on the evidence provided to the adjudicator.

Take your seat in the adjudicator’s chair, review the evidence and decide whether you think the evidence justifies an award.

Dispute resolution workshops

If you want a more detailed look at how to prepare for and manage deposit disputes at the end of your tenancies, why not join us at one of our dispute resolution workshops?

We’ve got ten sessions coming up in different cities around the country. You can find out where we’re holding them, as well as a detailed explanation of what you can expect on the day on our website.

Still not sure if you should attend a session? See what some of our previous attendees had to say.

"I've now got a better understanding of how cases are dealt with and how important it is that as an agent we send clear evidence."

"I've got the confidence to negotiate [with the tenant] before a dispute, and have a clear understanding of how to collate and present dispute information for The DPS."

Sizzling or fizzling - the return

Last year, thousands of you took the time to tell us what you thought about our service in our short temperature check survey. Your responses have now been factored into the biggest program of investment in our service we’ve undertaken since we launched our custodial scheme in 2007.

Although we know you value our years of experience in providing custodial protection, we don’t intend to rest on our laurels. That’s why we’re going to keep talking to you and asking for your feedback, and continue turning your insights into real improvements.

You should soon receive an invite to take part in our next temperature check. Please do respond, as your views help us make the right improvements to our service.
