Did you know you're seven times more likely to have a
fire if you're living in rented or shared accommodation?*
To help keep tenants safe and reduce their risk of
having a fire or suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning, the
Government has introduced a new law for private landlords.
As of 1 October 2015, a working smoke alarm must be
fitted on every storey of a rented property and tested regularly, and
a carbon monoxide alarm must be fitted in every room that has a solid
fuel burning appliance (coal fire or wood burning stove).
Over on our blog, Mark Hazelton, Group Manager for
Community Safety Development at London Fire Brigade, talks about the
new laws and what is expected of private landlords. Make sure you
check it out.
